Place de la Bastille
Symbol of Revolution
Once the location of the infamous Bastille prison, whose storming marked the beginning of the French Revolution, Place de la Bastille is now a lively square filled with historical significance. At its center stands the July Column, commemorating the Revolution of 1830, topped with a golden figure of Liberty. The area around Place de la Bastille is vibrant, featuring a variety of cafes, bars, and theaters, and is also home to the Opéra Bastille, a modern opera house. The square serves as a gathering place for celebrations, protests, and cultural events, keeping alive the spirit of freedom and change that has defined it for centuries.
